ALARM PERMIT APPLICATION PROCESS
Alarm Permit Applications are available to businesses and residents within the City of Mansfield from the records management at the Mansfield Police Department; in the main lobby of the Police Department; 1305 East Broad Street; or by printing the application on the internet. There is currently no fee to apply for an Alarm Permit. For more information on Alarm Permit's please call the Mansfield Police Department at (817)276-4734.
As of January 2007 the Mansfield Police Department has broken the alarm permit application up into to types. One is a business alarm permit and the other is a residential alarm permit.

On December 12, 1983, the Mansfield City Council passed Ordinance #520 concerning the regulation of alarm systems. The ordinance was implemented January 1, 1984. The requirements of the ordinance are as follows:
- 1. The ordinance applies to a person who operates or causes to be operated an alarm system at any alarm site.
- 2. A separate permit is required for each alarm site. (Each street address)
- 3. Permits are free and good for three years.
- 4. To obtain a permit, simply complete an application and mail to:

Applications are available at the Police Department or by the Police Department's web site.
- 5. The permit holder must:
- a. Maintain the premises in a manner that insures proper operation of the alarm.
- b. Maintain the alarm system in a manner that minimizes false alarms.
- c. Respond or cause a representative to respond to the scene of an alarm, when called by the police department "within a reasonable period of time".
- d. Not manually activate the alarm for any reason other than an occurrence of an event that the system was intended to report. (i.e. Activating a robbery or "panic" alarm for any reason less than a life threatening situation)
- e. Adjust, or cause their alarm to be adjusted so that it will sound for no longer than 30 minutes after being activated.
- f. If the person operates a local alarm or an alarm that calls the police department directly, they must adjust or cause their alarm to be adjusted so that upon activation, the system will not transmit another alarm signal without first being manually reset.
- g. Keep a complete set of written operating instructions for each alarm system at each alarm site.
- 6. The ordinance allows six free false alarms per any continues twelve (12) month period. The permit holder shall pay a service fee of $30.00 for each false alarm from an alarm site that is in excess of six alarms within any twelve month period.
- 7. In addition to the service fees, a person who operates an alarm system may be cited to court for violating any of the following sections of the ordinance.
- a. Operating an alarm system without a permit.
- b. Operating an alarm system while your permit is revoked.
- c. Failing to respond within a "reasonable period of time".
- d. Activating an alarm for the wrong purpose.
- e. Allowing the alarm o sound for more than 30 minutes.
- f. Failure to have a manual reset system.
- g. Failure to maintain operating instructions at site.
- 8. A permit can be revoked for:
- a. A false statement of a material matter in the application.
- b. The permit holder has violated any of the sections dealing with his/her responsibilities concerning their alarm.
- c. The permit holder has failed to make a timely payment of a service fee.
