Posted on 02/05/07CodeRED Emergency Notification System Online
Notifying Mansfield residents of emergency situations just got easier. The city has contracted with Florida-based Emergency Communications Network Inc. for its "CodeRED" services.
The high-speed telephone notification system gives city officials the ability to deliver pre-recorded emergency information and messages to specific areas or to the entire city. The system, which can call Mansfield telephone numbers at a rate of 60,000 calls per hour, provides an important public safety tool for the city.
"The CodeRED system not only offers faster calling rates and improved message delivery, it gives residents and businesses the ability to add their own phone numbers directly to the system's database," said Tom Legler, emergency management coordinator for the city.
The telephone database is key to the system's success, Legler says, so residents are encouraged to register in order to ensure that they will be called in case of emergencies. Registration is available via the city's website or call the emergency management office at 817-276-4776 Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Required information includes first and last name, physical street address, city, state and zip code and primary phone number. Second phone numbers such as cell phone numbers are optional.
"No one should assume they are in the system," Legler says. "Some residents have unlisted numbers, there are a lot of new businesses. It is also important to have addresses because CodeRED is a geographic-based notification system. Street addresses are needed to select which phone numbers receive the pre-recorded message."
For more information about CodeRED, contact the Mansfield Office of Emergency Management at 817-276-4776.
