MUNICIPAL COURTS

PLEAS

Guilty

To plead guilty, you must sign the back of the citation. Then mail or deliver the citation in person to the Court along with the appropriate fine amount.

Because the fines and costs vary based on the offense charged, it is necessary to call the Court to determine the exact amount due for each citation. A receipt for your payment will be mailed to you if a self-addressed stamped envelope is enclosed with your payment.

A guilty plea will be considered a conviction and recorded as such on your criminal and/or driving record unless you come to the court and request deferred disposition/probation or a driver's safety course and pay the requisite fees for either option.

Not Guilty

A plea of not guilty must be made in person at the Court prior to the expiration of the 15-day period. At that time a Court date will be set for your trial.

You cannot enter a plea of not guilty or schedule a Court date by telephone. If you plead not guilty, a Pre-trial or First Appearance hearing will be scheduled so that you have an opportunity to discuss your case with the Prosecutor. If the citation is not dismissed and no plea agreement is made, a trial date will be scheduled.

Nolo Contendere or No Contest

If you wish to plead nolo contendere or no contest, you will be responsible for the fees and costs assessed for your citation(s).

Any request for deferred disposition/probation to keep the citation off your record must be made in person. The Court clerks will be able to inform you of the costs and fees associated with resolving your citation through deferred disposition. You may also elect to complete a driving safety course to keep your citation from appearing on your driving record.
