Water Restrictions

The Tarrant Regional Water District (TRWD) announced plans today to implement Stage 1 of its Drought Contingency Plan starting June 3. This will include the City of Mansfield.

With the system’s capacity hovering at 75 percent and the persistent drought conditions in North Texas, TRWD is asking its customers to begin conserving water until conditions improve.

In an effort to reduce outdoor watering, residential customers will follow a twice a week watering schedule based on their address. Residents whose addresses end in odd numbers (1,3,5,7 or 9) will be permitted to only water lawns and landscapes with sprinklers on Sundays and Thursdays. Residents who addresses end with even numbers (2,4,6 and 8) may only water on Saturdays and Wednesdays. Non-residential customers including apartments, businesses, parks and common areas may only water on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Watering by hand, soaker hoses and drip irrigation is allowed at any time of the day of the week. The time of day restriction which prohibits watering between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. will remain in effect. Officials also discourage residents from hosing paved areas and encourage them to reduce the frequency of draining and filling swimming pools.

This is the second time the TRWD, which serves 1.8 million people in 11 North Texas counties, has implemented watering restrictions based on storage capacity.
