Portion Of Walnut Creek Linear Park Trail Closed

Construction of the Highway 287 frontage road bridges over Walnut Creek has closed the Walnut Creek Linear Park trails between McKnight Park West and McKnight Park east for approximately three months.

"Work moved more quickly than was anticipated and TxDOT closed the trail late last week," said Park Planner Hillary Hodges. "Signage is going up at the parks along the trail to let everyone using the linear park know where the alternate trailheads are located. We don't have a specific date when that section of the trail will be open again. But TxDOT said they expect it to be closed for at least three months."

Work on the frontage road bridges have already begun and Texas Department of Transportation officials say work will continue until this fall. The trail loop around McKnight Park East will be accessible, however the trail between McKnight East and West will be closed.

Mansfield Parks & Recreation officials say visitors to the linear park may access the trail heads at Town Park, Katherine Rose Memorial Park, Hardy Allmon Soccer fields, Palm Court and McKnight Park West. All access to the trail east of McKnight Park West will be closed.

Storm Drain Marking Program

The Clean Water Project crew is looking for volunteers to help mark storm drains in neighborhoods throughout the City.

Storm drain markers are visual reminders that storm drains are for stormwater only. This program is a great way for residents to get more involved in the community while providing an education component about the importance of not littering and being aware of the effects of their actions.

Water entering your neighborhood storm drains is not treated. It flows directly from the storm drain pipe into your local pond, creeks, or lake. The only way to keep these areas clean is to keep the litter off the ground.

Common pollutants people dump down these storm drains such as used motor oil and anti-freeze, grass clippings, leaves, litter, and used cooking oil, harm local waterways and any plants and animals that use these areas.

See this flyer for more details.

To participate or for more information, please contact Arianne Shipley at 817-276-4297 or visit the storm drain webpage at: http://www.mansfield-tx.gov/departments/es/cwp/participation/stormdrains/.
