Water / Sewer Rate Change
It is hard to believe, but the City of Mansfield has not changed the rates charged for water and sewer service in over 13-years.
Many things have changed during the past decade. Like the rest of the Metroplex, Mansfield has experienced tremendous growth. Mansfield has kept pace with this growth by consistently improving our capacity to deliver water to residents and businesses.
However, the greater usage demands on our water system, and the volume of raw water that is being withdrawn from our area lakes and reservoirs has illustrated the need to conserve water.
These water and sewer rates have been selected to help encourage water conservation and extend the availability of our existing resources.
These new water and sewer rates will become effective April 1st, 2006.
In order to prove the need for additional reservoir capacity cities that use water from the existing supplies must show that the currently available supplies are being used wisely.
The acquisition of land and construction of a new reservoir literally takes decades to accomplish. The impacts on landowners and the environment must be fully justified in order for a new reservoir project to be approved.
Therefore, our water conservation efforts not only help to insure that we will have sufficient supplies for today, but also that the development of future supplies are well justified.
