Mansfield Sports Complex Barnett Shale Operations
In 2004, the Mansfield Park Facilities Development Corporation entered into a Mineral Lease and drill site, approved by City Council, for the property at Mansfield National Golf Course and Mansfield Sports Complex.
The gas drilling operation is currently in the permitting stage with the City and if approved, drilling operations should begin by early fall of 2009.
Drilling operations when commenced will work for several months and then ease off and then possibly begin again until all wells are drilled. The gas drilling company XTO will provide a new improved concrete roadway into the park from the entrance and extend that roadway to the north of the existing soccer complex. The gravel access roadway to the well site will be on the west side of the soccer complex and will be treated to minimize dust. A frac pond to supply water will be constructed on the south east side of the park and will be designed in a manner to be a natural amenity. This pond will serve as the water supply for the drilling operations. Upon growth in of natural vegetation the fence will be removed and the amenity pond will be opened for public enjoyment.
