CITY OF MANSFIELD STORM WATER MANAGEMENT
RECREATIONAL WASTES
What Are Recreational Wastes?
Recreational wastes come from recreational vehicles with toilet facilities, like RVs and boats. Most parks provide connections where these facilities can be drained.
These facilities should never be drained down a storm drain, on the ground, or in a lake or stream. These facilities do not treat the wastes to the point that they can be released back into the environment.
In fact, most tank treatments do not "treat" the wastes at all, but instead merely react with the odor causing materials and neutralize only those materials. This means the microorganisms causing the odor are not killed, only the compounds they produce that we smell.
Illegally disposing of these wastes results in noxious odors, decreased fish habitat, beach closures, fish consumption bans, algal blooms, increased treatment costs and many harmful health effects, as well as many other problems.
