CITY OF MANSFIELD STORM WATER MANAGEMENT

POLLUTION PREVENTION

Preventing pollution is the easiest way to ensure our local waterways remain safe for swimming and fishing. Preventing pollution is also the least expensive way of keeping our local waterways clean for swimming and fishing.

"Don't Mess With Texas" means keep our roadsides free of litter. But this also helps keep pollutants out of our local waterways helps protect our water resources for generations to come.

Some of the typical pollutants are used motor oil, plastic bags, cigarette butts, and old appliances and they pose a risk to the quality of our water or the wildlife that depend on it. When these items are placed in the storm drain system, they enter our local waterways untreated. There they can cause a variety of problems.

Below are many areas in which pollution can be reduced.

GETTING INVOLVED

The links above contain more information about the specific hazards posed by the different pollutants as well as information about how they should be properly disposed. Dumping items or substances down storm drains, in fields, creeks, streams, ponds, lakes or ditches is never the solution.

The Keep Mansfield Beautiful Commission also has an Adopt-A-Road program for individuals, groups and businesses to pledge to keep roadsides clean from trash. Placing discarded items in their proper place is another way to get involved.

Placing your own discarded items where they belong not only keeps the community clean and attractive, but it also helps maintain our water quality. As more people move into the area, this becomes ever more important.
