KMBC WILDFLOWER SEED PROGRAM

Nothing says beautiful quite like native wildflowers! The Texas Department of Transportation has been engaging in roadside plantings for a few years now. It is a part of their beautification plan.
The Keep Mansfield Beautiful Commission periodically makes wildflower seeds available for purchase by residents and businesses to bring the lovely color patterns of our native wildflowers to our public. The Commission uses the funds collected to acquire seeds from a local provider and to separate the seeds into 1 pound containers.
A bluebonnet and wildflower seed order form is available here, please complete and return to City hall by August 1 of the current year so that we can be sure to have your seeds ordered and delivered in time for planting.
Bluebonnet Seeds

The Bluebonnet is the State flower of Texas. And few things say spring in Texas quite like the bluebonnets that dot our highways, and now our parks. The Keep Mansfield Beautiful Commission has begun planting Bluebonnet and other wildflower seeds at a location along the Linear Trail between Town Park and Katherine Rose Park.
Every spring we invite the public to come out and enjoy a bit of nature, color and exercise. Take a walk, relax, and smell the, well bluebonnets aren't very fragrant. But they are attractive, so come on out and enjoy them anyway.
And if you would like to purchase bluebonnet seeds to plant on your own, please keep an eye out in the fall for when the Commission has them for sale. Most wildflower seeds need to be planted in the fall, to winter over and bloom in the spring.
Wildflower Seeds
While the bluebonnet is the State Flower, there are many, many other plants that come together to bloom and provide enjoyment for all to see. Indian blankets, blacked-eyed Susans, purple coneflowers, Mexican hats, and primroses are just a few of the flowers in the exciting mix.
The most exciting thing about this mix is you never know exactly what you got until they start to bloom. In addition to the bluebonnets planted by the Commission, a mixture of other wildflower seeds is planted. These can be found at the same location between Town Park and Katherine Rose Park.
This mixture of seeds will also be available for purchase and orders need to be placed in time to winter over and bloom in the spring or early summer. So if you are looking for a little longer lasting color and interest, you may want to consider this mixture of different plants.
Bluebonnets, or wildflowers, you cannot go wrong. Either way, it is an easy, simple, and inexpensive way to bring color and beauty into your life.
